Description: Steelhead/salmon hook with a tapered loop and upward-facing eye. The 7999Â is made of a material that is a bit heavier than ordinary salmon hooks. The reason is not only to improve its sturdiness, but also because there are many situations in which it is more advantageous to have a heavier hook. For example, in large steelhead rivers where the use of weights is restricted, it is great for drifting the fly and back-mending. For low water patterns and dry flies, use the good old lightweight TMC7989. Alternatively, TMC5262, 5263, 200R, and 2457, which are size #8 or smaller, have already proven their ability to withstand steelhead.
